List time again: The Guardian last month had a list of the 10 best (rather unexpectedly) Britfunk tracks:

I love the choices – Beggar & Co’s ‘(Somebody) Help Me Out’ and Freeez’s ‘Southern Freeez’ are totally classic tunes and are my all time UK dance favs. But like all lists, even when they are legitimated by some notion of authoritative expertise, they are always marked by biography, individual histories and past events. Even the term Britfunk is of its time, of a past that has gone for good. As an act of uncovering some memories deeply buried in the ravages of the present here is my supplementary best of list:

1. Light of the World – London Town

2. Junior – Mama Used to Say

3. I-Level – Give Me

4. The Funk Masters – It’s Over

5. Rocker’s Revenge  – Walkin’ on Sunshine

6. Imagination – Just An Illusion

7. David Joseph – You Can’t Hide Your Love

8. Heatwave – Boogie Nights

9. Phil Feron & Galaxy – Head Over Heels

10. Average White Band – Pick Up the Pieces
